The Camp Gorham Summer Staff is chosen due to their demonstrated abilities working with children, their experience in their chosen program activity and their love of the outdoors!

Our summer staff typically consists of:

35 cabin/activity counselors who live and work directly with campers

12 Village and Area Directors who oversee age groups camper villages and activity areas making sure personal attention and safety are priorities

6 Kitchen staff including a trained food service manager who plans healthy, hearty meals

3 Office Staff including store manager and office assistant

3 Maintenance staff including a cleaning director ensuring camp is sanitary

I Health Director who oversees all medical needs of campers (Camp Gorham staff are trained in CPR, First Aid as well as their specific activities areas such as life guarding. Camp also employees two EMT's who are on site as well)

1 Program Director who oversees camp activities for campers and leads staff to ensure safety and fun are priorities.

1 Executive Director who oversees camp operations

Our ratio to camper/staff is 1 staff member to every 6 campers.

Meet the Year Round Staff:

Anne Thornton, Executive Director

Anne has been a YMCA professional since 1994. Anne is passionate about camping previously holding positions as Outdoor Center Director at YMCA Camp Speers-Eljabar in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania and Executive Director of YMCA Camp Linwood-MacDonald in Sussex County, NJ. Anne has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and is a senior director with the YMCA. Anne lives at camp with her husband Tony (they met at a YMCA camp in 1991) and their two children Helen and Karen (pictured). All the Thornton’s love Camp Gorham and look forward to welcoming guests and campers.

Pete Meneilly, Camp Ranger

Pete has been working at Camp Gorham since 1984. He is a skilled craft’s man, able fixer and keeps camp running year round. Pete lives at camp and has lived in the Adirondack Mountains his entire life. Pete is Camp Gorham’s resident historian, as well as contributes to camps program planning.

Christina Sipple, Program Director

Christina has served on the Camp Gorham summer staff since 2002. She was the waterfront director in 2007 and the summer program director in 2008. Christina lives at camp and enjoys being outdoors. Christina brings a wealth of knowledge to our programs working with staff to ensure a fun and safe camp experience!

Jon Lis, Camp Mechanic

Jon joined the Camp Gorham team in 2008 previously overseeing the maintenance at VanAukens Inn in Old Forge, NY. Jon lives in Old Forge with his wife Jennifer and their two children. (With another child expected in June 2010)

Jennifer Crim, Director of Administration

Jennifer joined Camp Gorham in January 2010! She comes to us from the Adirondack Museum where she was a staff accountant. She also is a prior business owner running her own deli. Jennifer is enthusiastic about serving our camp and will be a friendly, helpful voice in our office. Jennifer lives in Raquette Lake, NY with her husband Matt and has a dog named Moose.
