Active Older Adult Programs at Northwest

Summer Classes

The Northwest Family YMCA is committed to offering relevant and meaningful opportunities, programs and special events for the older adult population in our community. We currently offer the following specialized programs designed for individuals 55 years and older:

Water Fitness for Health:

This is an aquatic exercise program designed to meet your needs. Participants do not need to know how to swim. Since the water provides buoyancy and support, exercising in the pool is ideal for people with joint disorders or those who are overweight. Join the program and improve physical, social, and mental well being.

Silver Sneakers I: Muscular Strength & Range of Motion:

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of motion and activity for daily living skills. Hand held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball are offered for resistance and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.

Silver Sneakers II: Cardio Circuit:
Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper body strength workout with hand held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball is alternated with non-impact choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching and relaxation exercises.

Silver Sneakers Yoga Stretch:
Yoga Stretch will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.

The Northwest YMCA feels that socialization is important to keeping “young at heart”. We have a variety of programs and clubs that will do just that; activities include Book Club, Lunch & Learn, Euchre Club, Lunch Bunch, Project Linus community Service Projects and the Ambassador Club.
