Active Older Adults at Westside
The Westside YMCA is committed to offering relevant and meaningful opportunities, programs and special events for the older adult population in our community. We currently offer the following specialized programs designed for individuals 55 years and older:
Summer 2010 Course Offerings
Ambassador's Club:
Ambassadors are adult volunteers who help to enhance the programs and services provided to our members. We will match your interests to our needs to create a satisfying experience for all. Applications are available at the Member Service Desk.
Arthritis Aquatics:
Exercises designed by the Arthritis Foundation and the YMCA are performed in the shallow water to increase flexibility while decreasing pain and stiffness in joints. The range of motion is non-stressful and a good way to improve the quality of your everyday life.
SilverSplash (Aqua Fit I):
Lots of fun and shallow water moves to improve agility, flexibility, and cardio endurance. No swimming ability required; kickboard is used to develop strength, balance, and coordination.
Aqua Fit II and III:
If you are fifty years of age or older, this is an aquatics exercise program designed to meet your needs. Exercising in the pool is also ideal for people with joint disorders or who are overweight, since the water provides buoyancy and support. Join the program and improve physical, social and mental well-being.
SilverSneakers Program:
An older adult fitness program that focuses on cardiovascular health, muscle strength, balance, coordination and conditioning. These classes are designed to be safe and lots of fun.
YogaStretch:
Move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses designed to increase flexibility, balance, and range of movement. Breathing exercises will also promote stress reduction and mental clarity.
Lounge/Game Room:
Enhance your healthy lifestyle and build strong relationships by joining your friends and other older adults for coffee, open games, crafts, computers, or just good conversation.
Craft Club/Caring Cards:
Brighten someone's day by joining this group to make handcrafted greeting cards. This is a great way to be social and let your artistic side come out!
Pinochle Club:
Join us on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month 12:30-3:30 in the Lounge Area.
