TITLE:	Lifeguard

General Function:
Under the direction of the Aquatic Director, a lifeguard will uphold the rules and the guidelines of the
pool to ensure the safest environment for all members. Greets everyone by name whenever possible;
extends thanks whenever appropriate; makes relationship building the number one priority at all times.

General Qualifications:
1. Must successfully complete YMCA New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire.
2. Must successfully complete the YMCA’s Listen First Learn & Implement Cycle within 6 months of
hire.
3. Must sign and demonstrate the YMCA of Greater Rochester’s Staff Pledge.
4. Must be 16 years of age or older.
5. Must have current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding or obtain YMCA Lifeguarding
Certification within 60 days of hire date.
6. Must have Basic First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification, AED, and Oxygen
Administration.
7. In addition to the above requirements, it is expected that a lifeguard will bring to his/her position
maturity, responsibility, positive values and sincere interest in working with people.
8. Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with the YMCA of Greater Rochester
standards.

WAGE RANGE:	$7.40 - $7.75/hour
