Teen and Tween Programs at Westside
Fall I 2010 Programs
Our goal is to provide quality Teen programming that will have a positive impact in these four main areas: personal growth, leadership training, service to others and social development. Programs and special events at the Westside YMCA Branch include:
LEADERS CLUB
(12+ yrs) Wednesdays 7:00-8:00pm. Teens, come join our Leaders Club for a chance to make a positive impact on yourself, your peers, and your community. The mission of the Club is to create and enhance the YMCA core values and character development through activities such as teambuilding games, program planning, community service projects and volunteer opportunities. Members of the club will also receive a chance to take part in Leaders Rallies across the Northeast Region and Leaders School, a weeklong summer leadership conference at the beautiful Silver Bay Resort on Lake George.
JR LEADERS CLUB
( 9-12 yrs) Tuesdays 6:15-7:00. Jr. Leaders Club is a program designed for “Tweens” who are willing to make a positive impact on themselves and the community. The club will engage in teambuilding activities, volunteer opportunities, and fundraising while growing in mind, body, and spirit.
TEEN & ADULT BASKETBALL
Full-court basketball is offered by age group during the week. Teams are divided as players arrive and all games are recreational.

TEEN SWIM LESSONS - Beginner Classs
Monday
8:00 - 8:40pm
This class is designed for those who are fearful of water and want to feel more comfortable in the water. Floating, gliding, rythmic breathing, front and back crawl will be the focus of this class.
TEEN SWIM LESSONS - Intermediate/Advanced Class
Monday
8:00 - 8:40pm
Swimmers will refine existing skills in relation to team dynamics. The use of aquatic equipment will be used to enhance performance and success. Must be able to swim 25 yards each of the front crawl & backstroke.
Volunteer Internship Program
Ages 12-15 years. Participants volunteer in various departments (Aquatics, Child Watch/Adventure Center, Member Service, Family Events, Sports, and Fun/Fit Zone) within the YMCA. Through shadowing and hands-on experience, youth can see first hand what employment at the YMCA could be like. VIP’s also will receive basic training in first aid, water safety and workplace professionalism. Each class includes classroom instruction and volunteer service. It is extremely important to attend each class. Volunteer service hours may be used for school credit. Participants may continue to volunteer with instructor approval after the program ends.
High School Volunteer Program
Ages 16-18. Participants volunteer in various departments (Aquatics, Child Watch/Adventure Center, Member Service, Family Events, Sports, and Fun/Fit Zone) of their choice within the YMCA.
